The former head of the Renault-Nissan automobile group, Carlos Ghosn, is said to be in Lebanon. According to local media outlets that released the information, the former businessman accused of corruption by Japanese justice and placed under house arrest in Tokyo has arrived in Beirut by private plane. The circumstances surrounding the return of the person with triple Lebanese French and Brazilian nationality are unclear.
The circumstances of Carlos Ghosn's return to Lebanon are unclear. How was the Franco-Lebanese-Brazilian boss able to leave Japan when he was there under house arrest? Who helped him get out of the country where four charges of financial embezzlement hang over this former number one of the Renault Nissan group?
These questions and many more remain unanswered for the moment. What we know, according to the newspaper L'Orient-Le Jour, is that Carlos Ghosn arrived this Monday, December 30, by private plane from Turkey.
According to the Financial Times, which quotes an associate of Carlos Ghosn, the ex-boss of Renault-Nissan would have rather arrived in Beirut Sunday evening late.
Arrested in Japan in November 2018
It's been a little over a year since the ex-boss was arrested in Japan. Last October, his lawyers had asked the justice to cancel the lawsuits, accusing the prosecutors and representatives of the Japanese manufacturer of collusion. The purpose of the arrest? According to the lawyers, it was a question of ousting Carlos Ghosn to prevent it from strengthening the alliance with Renault.
After several weeks in prison, Carlos Ghosn had been placed under house arrest after paying bail. The Japanese justice systematically rejected all the requests which aimed to soften the conditions of this release on bail, in particular the prohibition to contact his wife.
