TPP = One year has passed since the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement came into effect. Imports of beef from Canada and New Zealand, where tariffs have dropped, have increased significantly, while exports of mackerel from Japan to Vietnam have increased, and both imports and exports have changed.

According to the Ministry of Finance's trade statistics, looking at the country's beef imports from January to November, Canada participating in the TPP almost doubled compared to the same time last year and New Zealand's 32 And Mexico increased by 18%, respectively.

On the other hand, the United States who withdrew from the TPP fell by 4%.

As for pork imports, Canada and Mexico, which are members of the TPP, increased, while the United States decreased.

This is because the TPP came into effect last December, lowering tariffs, lowering selling prices and increasing the competitiveness of agricultural products in participating countries.

Meanwhile, in exports, the value of mackerel exports to Vietnam has increased by 42% as tariffs imposed on Japanese seafood by the TPP have been eliminated.

Although the export value of agriculture, forestry and fishery products and foods is not expected to reach the target of 1 trillion yen, the government intends to increase exports by leveraging the TPP and the Japan-US trade agreement that will come into force on the 1st of next month.
