Year-end and New Year Vegetable Prices Mostly on par with normal years December 25 16:39

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has announced that the prices of vegetables for the year-end and New Year holidays, such as "daikon" and "hakusai," which are used in cooking pots and ingredients for New Year's dishes, will be on par with the average year. However, the growth of “carrots” is delayed, so the high prices will continue.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the wholesale prices of main vegetables at the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market are as follows: "Cabbage" is 30% or more lower than normal on 23rd of this month, and "Radish" and "Hakusai" "Potato" is also lower than normal by more than 20%, and 10 out of 14 items are cheaper than normal.

On the other hand, "Satoimo" and "Carrot" are more than 20% higher than normal.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries forecasts that the price of “carrots,” whose growth is delayed and shipments are declining, is expected to remain high until the first half of next month.

On the other hand, most vegetables, such as "daikon" and "hakusai", which are used as ingredients for hot pot dishes and New Year dishes, are expected to remain at normal prices over the next month.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, "we expect that most vegetables will continue to have a stable supply and that prices will not change significantly during the year-end and New Year holidays."
