“European solidarity” will require the immediate convening of a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council and the imposition of sanctions against direct gas supplies from Russia, ”Poroshenko quoted Interfax-Ukraine as saying.

He also said that "five companies that directly concluded agreements with Gazprom are already known, and these are not commercial, but exclusively political agreements."

Earlier, Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Goncharuk told how beneficial it is for Ukrainian business and citizens to sign a five-year gas transit agreement with Russia.

In turn, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak noted that Moscow and Kiev, in connection with the continuation of gas transit, have opened a “window of opportunity” to reach other agreements.
