The international community will condition any financial aid to Lebanon to the establishment of a reformist government, declared Wednesday the French Minister of Foreign Affairs at the end of an international meeting in Paris to help this country out of the political crisis.

It was to help Lebanon out of the political and financial crisis in which it is plunged. But the main international support of Beirut meeting this Wednesday in Paris have conditioned all financial assistance to the establishment of an " effective and credible " government, which quickly initiates " emergency " reforms.

" The only criterion must be the effectiveness of this government in the service of reforms expected by the population, " said the French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian at the end of this meeting. " Only this way will allow all the participants around this table and beyond to mobilize to give Lebanon all the support it needs, " he added. This meeting of the International Support Group in Lebanon (GIS), co-chaired by France - traditional support of Beirut - and the United Nations, was closed at the end of the afternoon by the French minister.

Since mid-October, Lebanon has experienced a major protest against the entire political class deemed incompetent and corrupt, the people demanding political and economic reforms. It is the most serious economic crisis in the country since the civil war that took place between 1975 and 1990. The numerous protests led on 29 October to the resignation of the government, which has not yet been replaced.

The economic and financial situation of Lebanon, Already very fragile before the beginning of the dispute, the economic and financial situation has continued to deteriorate ever since. The country is facing increasing banking restrictions and a shortage of liquidity. Back to the wall, Saad Hariri, who continues to manage current affairs, has requested emergency financial assistance to several "countries brothers and friends" (France, Saudi Arabia, the United States, Russia, China, Egypt and Turkey).

But the international community makes the granting of financial aid conditional on the implementation of several reforms, from greater transparency of public transactions to the independence of the judiciary.
