The share of football club Ajax plummeted on the stock exchange in Amsterdam on Wednesday. The club was eliminated in the Champions League on Tuesday after a 0-1 loss at home against Valencia. The share decreased by 10.76 percent to 19.90 euros.
The share is considerably undermined, because Ajax misses quite a lot of income due to the elimination in the millions ball. Last year Ajax earned a total of around 95 million euros from participating in the Champions League, but because the ship is already stranded this year in the pool phase, these revenues remain stuck at around 50 million euros.
Because Ajax finished third in the group, Ajax is now moving on to the Europa League. Here the income is much lower. Where a victory in the group stage of the Champions League, for example, yields a club 2.75 million euros, in the Europa League that amount is 'only' 570,000 euros.
Ajax lost on Wednesday by a goal from Valencia striker Rodrigo just before half time. After the break, the team from Amsterdam still had opportunities, but the equalizer did not come. Point loss of the London football club Chelsea could have helped Ajax to the next Champions League round, but the club managed to win 2-1 at home from the already eliminated Lille.
