Convenience store giant Seven-Eleven Japan announced that some overtime allowances for store employees were unpaid. Unpaid payments may have continued for more than 40 years due to an error in the calculation formula set up by the headquarters, and it is likely that the management system of the company will be questioned again.

The unpaid portion was part of the overtime allowance for part-time workers and part-time employees who work at the store.

Due to the fact that the calculation formula for overtime allowance carried out by the headquarters was incorrect, there are over 30,000 people, and the total amount is 490 million yen, since March 2012 when records remain.

In 2001, a similar issue was pointed out by the Labor Standards Inspection Office, but the company did not make any public announcements or additional payments, and the changed formula was incorrectly set.

The company says that there might have been unpaid for over 40 years, and the reason why the problem has been neglected for a long time is “because the check system was insufficient”.

President Fumihiko Nagamatsu emphasized the idea of strengthening the check system and preventing recurrence at a press conference.

However, there are a number of issues surrounding Seven-Eleven, such as how to operate 24 hours a day and how to deal with unauthorized use of smartphone payment service “7pay”.
