This is stated in a message published on the website of the Ministry of Finance.

“Today, the amount of Russian claims, taking into account the accrued interest, is about $ 4.5 billion,” the department said.

It is noted that Eurobonds denominated in US dollars were issued by Ukraine and purchased by subscription by Russia in December 2013.

As specified, the interest rate on them is 5% per annum, that is, at that time it was lower than the market rate for Ukrainian debt.

“After three payments to the accrued interest, Ukraine did not make a payment to repay the principal amount of the debt, which was due on December 21, 2015,” the Minifin added.

Earlier, the British Supreme Court began hearings on a dispute between Russia and Ukraine on outstanding Eurobonds by Kiev.

Ukrainian political scientist and economist Oleksandr Dudchak commented on the beginning of the trial, saying that Moscow has a good chance of getting a decision in its favor.
