For his part, the Minister of National Planning and Infrastructure in the Maldives, Muhammad Aslam, stressed the importance of the great role of the government of the United Arab Emirates and the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development in supporting development projects in the Maldives, pointing out that the fund contributed to financing many important projects with the Maldives government.

The project included the construction of a runway with a length of about 2,200 meters, aircraft parking corridors, and service routes to accommodate large aircraft from Airbus and Boeing.

The project also included the construction of the main buildings of the airport, maintenance equipment, a dock for boats to serve the neighboring islands, construction of airport administration buildings, a fire-fighting station, a control tower, a desalination plant and a generator, in addition to infrastructure works from water filling operations, and the delivery of electricity and water lines, And telecommunications services.
