Shipment of the next-generation supercomputer, “Fugaku”, to be installed at the RIKEN in Kobe City began at a factory in Ishikawa Prefecture.

“Tomitake” once boasted the world's fastest computing speed, and has been jointly developed by RIKEN and Fujitsu, a major electronics manufacturer, as the successor to the “K computer” that ended operation in August. .

Of the computers that combined more than 400 units, the first six units from Unit 1 to Unit 6 were completed, and a ceremony was held to commemorate the shipment at the factory in Ishikawa, Ishikawa Prefecture.

"Fugaku" is to be installed at RIKEN in Kobe City, and according to Fujitsu, it achieves the world's top computing speed with about one-third of the power compared to a system with similar configuration. It is a prospect.

The goal is to improve practicality, so it is expected to be used for more accurate forecasts of the weather and the global environment and for the development of new drugs.

Shipment work of “Tomitake” will continue for about half a year, with the aim of starting operation in 2021.
