The AEX index closed considerably lower on Monday due to American import duties on steel and aluminum and moderate figures on American industry. The AEX closed 1.7 percent lower and came out at 587.12 points, well below the 600-point limit that was broken down two weeks ago.
Investors responded negatively to US import duties on steel and aluminum from Brazil and Argentina. As a result, the ArcelorMittal steel group lost 1.6 percent.
In addition, there were concerns about American industry. For example, figures on the number of jobs in the sector, production and the number of orders were considerably lower than expected. Shrinkage occurred in all parts.
This also showed red numbers on Wall Street. At around 7.30 p.m., the S&P 500 fell by 0.8 percent to 3,115.62 points. The Nasdaq index fell by 1.15 percent to 8,564.57 points.
