A company that makes the famous ekiben “chicken rice” at JR Odate Station in Akita Prefecture has applied for a store opening on the premises of a station in Paris, France, to spread the culture of ekiben overseas. The company is working with Akita Prefecture to sell not only ekiben but also Akita special products.

The company that makes JR Odate Station's specialty “chicken rice” in Odate City, Akita Prefecture, has opened a store in Paris, France in July, in an attempt to spread the culture of ekiben overseas.

The company applied to the French National Railways to open a store on the premises of Lyon Station in the center of Paris.

The company, in collaboration with Akita Prefecture, wants to sell not only ekiben but also Akita-made rice and traditional crafts, as well as stuffed Akita dogs that are popular overseas.

In response to this application, the French National Railways will review and decide whether or not to accept the store.

“The appeal of Akita's special products is expected to increase sales of ekiben,” said Shuichi Yagibashi, president of Hanzen, a company that sells ekiben.
