Alnatura, the organic food retailer, has posted the largest increase in sales since 2014. At that time, the company had divested itself of its hitherto most important trading partner, the drugstore chain dm, and thereafter suffered substantial sales losses. Now there seems to be a recovery: In the financial year 2018/2019, which ended in late September, Alnatura self-reported generated 901 million euros. That corresponds to a growth of 9.5 percent. Alnatura does not traditionally give any information on profits.
According to the figures, the number of Alnatura employees is at its highest level ever in its 35-year history: at the end of the past financial year, more than 3,200 men and women were employed. Recently, however, the chain was criticized because employees of a Bremen branch had difficulties founding a works council. With four newly opened markets, Alnaturadeutschland is represented at a total of 133 locations.
After separating from dm in 2014 Alnatura had been looking for new partners. Since 2018, the company cooperates with, among others, the supermarket chains "Supermarchés Match" and "Cora" in France. A dispute over trademark rights have Alnatura and dm settled with a settlement.
"Our most important task continues to be to advance organic farming," Managing Director Götz Rehn said. In addition, Alnatura wants to expand its cooperation with the "Too Good To Go" initiative in 2020, which allows consumers to pick up non-salable food at a cheaper price.
