This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a letter from the Polish delegation sent to the EU Council.

“Excessive import of corn from Ukraine has a negative impact on the Polish grain market. Farmers face problems selling their crops, and the prices they receive are low. In recent years, about half of the corn imported to Poland comes from Ukraine, ”the document says.

According to the Polish side, Ukraine is becoming a "very serious competitor for the EU agriculture", as the country has advantages in the form of chernozem soils, a favorable climate, as well as low labor costs and transport.

According to Warsaw, Polish farmers "apply high environmental and climate standards in agricultural production", so it is difficult for them to compete with cheap Ukrainian corn, which ultimately leads to social unrest in the country.

“Poland asks not to provide any new preferences for access to the EU market for the import of crops, including corn,” the letter says.

Earlier, former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko announced a 40% increase in trade with the EU in three years. He also expressed confidence that the EU markets would not be closed for goods from Ukraine.
