“Indeed, it is very important for Nord Stream 2.” Since for Russia and its partners in this project it is important not only to build the infrastructure, but also to ensure its full use. In particular, so that the gas pipeline can be filled, if not 100% immediately, then at least so that it does not stand half empty, ”Mitrahovich emphasized.

According to the expert, such a decision of the German parliament was expected, since a significant part of the German political community and, especially, businesses wanted this project to work.

“Another question is that the whole story does not end with such a decision of the German parliament. In the future, this German decision ... will still have to be agreed with the European Commission, ”he said.

According to him, this process can be difficult. Mitrahovich noted that taking into account Germany’s position and its role in the EU, it will not be possible to slow down the removal of the project from the third energy package in the medium term at the European Union level.

Earlier, the Bundestag passed a bill amending the EU Gas Directive.

The bill provides for the possibility of exemptions from the requirements of the third energy package for pipelines from non-EU countries.
