Convenience store owner 85% or less less than 1 day a week

A questionnaire survey conducted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry for owners of member stores regarding the issues facing convenience stores, such as serious labor shortages, has been completed. The fact that the number of owners who can rest for less than one day a week has risen to 85%, revealing the strict labor situation at convenience stores.

This survey was conducted in August by an expert review committee of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to understand the issues facing convenience stores, and responses were received from over 3,600 owners of convenience store affiliates nationwide.

According to it, when asked about the number of days off for owners in a week, the percentage of owners who answered that less than one day was 66% with the most, followed by 19% with one day being less than one day a week, combined 85%.

On the other hand, it was only 7% for 2 days or more.

In the survey, the owners expressed their strong voices such as "I am working late at night and there is no vacation in 27 years," or "I can't take a perfect holiday basically because the ordering is quite a burden." .

In another questionnaire survey of 500 employees working at convenience stores, the most common answer was “manpower shortage” with 63%, followed by “late night business” with 33%. “Waste disposal” is 28%.

Based on the results of this survey, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will proceed with discussions at the Expert Review Committee and compile recommendations for improving convenience store management.
