Santander Bank obtained a net profit of 3,732 million euros in the first nine months of the year, 35% less than a year earlier, after providing 2,448 million , mainly due to the adjustment of the goodwill in the United Kingdom, due to Brexit .
This provision of 2,448 million also includes an additional provision for payment protection insurance (PPI) in the United Kingdom, and other charges. To this are also added the charges of 814 million announced in the first half, mainly for restructuring costs in Spain and the United Kingdom.
As explained by the entity in a relevant event referred to the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), excluding these charges, the profit in the first nine months of the year would reach 6,180 million, 2% more than in the same period of the 2018.
Between July and September alone, Santander earned 2,135 million, which is 7% more, and its highest quarterly ordinary profit since the second quarter of 2010, according to the bank.
