The Minister of Development, José Luis Ábalos , has advanced on Wednesday that Renfe will start selling low-cost AVE tickets at the end of January and that this new service will begin operating in April 2020 on the Madrid-Barcelona line .

During his speech at a breakfast organized by El Economista , Ábalos has pointed out that he is currently working in the workshops of Malaga for the adaptation of low cost trains, a milestone that will mean a very significant advance in the company's commercial strategy to attract new users

Ábalos has made this announcement a few days before October 31, the deadline for companies interested in competing with Renfe from December next year to submit their offers ends.

Last April, the president of Renfe, Isaías Taboas , advanced that the low-cost AVE could be used in Holy Week, about eight months before the passenger transport in Spain is liberalized, and, in principle, It would be released on the line between Madrid and Barcelona, without specifying when the tickets would be on sale.

Liberalization

Regarding liberalization , Ábalos has refused to explain whether offers have already been submitted, "out of respect for the process" and why transparency should not lead to harm to anyone, although he has assured that "there is competition and there will be competition".

The entry of competitors will allow profiting the billions of public investment destined for the Spanish high-speed network, as well as the reduction of displacements and the transfer of users from one means of transport to another, such as the train, more "ecological" , has added. "We have enough expectations in this process because it is a very relevant process," Ábalos insisted.

As for the roads , he has assured that they have completely elaborated and finalized the Extraordinary Road Investment Plan (PIC), pending from the PP Executive, and that they will launch it as soon as they govern.

"We have found the balance between what the Administration is willing to assume and the interest of the private investor," said Ábalos, who has pointed out that since these are investments for many years they will wait to be in the Executive to start it up.

This plan, he stressed, will "relieve" many of the requests for work that could not be undertaken through the budget, which, in turn, will boost the construction sector.

On the other hand, he has reiterated the need to discuss the future of financing high-capacity roads and has ensured that the reduction of tolls on motorways rescued by the State has allowed traffic to increase and that traffic has been increased. have benefits
