Panasonic ride sharing utilizing autonomous driving Aiming for commercialization October 17th 19:24

Panasonic has decided to commercialize a service that allows customers to ride an autonomous car with just one smartphone. Electrical manufacturers are likely to attract attention as a car sharing service that utilizes automatic driving and a move to ride sharing.

Panasonic has unveiled a ride-sharing service that allows employees to move around the premises at the headquarters in Kadoma City, Osaka.

This is a four-seater vehicle that is a modified electric cart that operates automatically, and if you make a reservation with the smartphone's dedicated app, you can get on and off freely at five places on a route of about 2.4 kilometers per lap that has been decided in advance.

In the control room, the operation status of the car is monitored by cameras and sensors attached to the car.

In the future, Panasonic intends to sell the entire system including vehicles to commercial facilities, universities, hospitals, etc., aiming for commercialization.

Ride share services using automatic driving are being tested by IT companies around the world for practical use, and Panasonic is also starting to enter the field as an electronics manufacturer.

Katsuyoshi Higashijima, general manager of the Panasonic Mobility Solutions Department, said, “I want to use the know-how gained from this effort to improve the service and to put it to practical use on private land outside the company by 2021.”
