INFO EUROPE 1

It has never been so expensive to rent a home in France. This is what reveals this Tuesday morning Europe 1 with the barometer of rents SeLoger. Rents were up 2.5% on average in France in 2019 compared to last year.

In 2019, rents will have cost on average 18 euros more than last year. The average rent in France is 723 euros including expenses, which makes it a spending item that weighs more and more heavily in the household budget. "For a single person, this represents more than a third of the average income and about a quarter for a household. This is an important part of income, and this increase has continued for several decades," says Europe 1 Florent Guiocheau SeLoger.

Paris and Saint-Etienne, the two extremes of the barometer

Not surprisingly, the most expensive city in France remains Paris with 1,660 euros rent on average, charges included. The capital is closely followed by its small neighbor, the very chic city of Neuilly in the Hauts-de-Seine, with 1.330 euros.

Three cities experienced particularly strong rents in 2019: Lille, Lyon and Nantes, with an average increase of 6%. Finally, among the major cities the cheapest Saint-Etienne displays the lowest prices, with an average rent of 485 euros including charges.
