He noted that progress in the negotiations is possible only if they are implemented "on an equal basis, mutually beneficial basis of mutual respect."

According to him, the results achieved in the last round of negotiations are the result of the fact that "China and the United States acted together and took into account mutual interests."

Earlier, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Gen Shuang said that Beijing and Washington were able to achieve substantial consensus on the first part of the trade agreement following the results of the last round of trade negotiations.

On October 14, US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin announced that a new package of US duties on Chinese goods would enter into force on December 15, unless the countries made a trade deal by that time.
