New equipment development using Toshiba's "ultra-high-speed" computing technology October 17th, 5:08

Toshiba has developed new equipment that greatly exceeds the computing power of conventional computers, and if it is put to practical use, it may change financial transactions and can be applied to a wide range of industries.

According to Toshiba, new devices use technology that enables extremely high-speed calculations in a field called “combinatorial optimization problems,” which selects the most suitable one from a vast number of combinations.

This time, it is applied to trading in the foreign exchange market, and it instantly finds the combination with the largest profit rate from currencies such as the dollar and the yen that fluctuate every moment with a probability of 90% or more. It means that you can place an order for buying and selling.

We are planning to improve the system for practical use in a few years, and if it is put into practical use, it may change the way financial transactions should be.

Regarding computational technology, the development competition of “quantum computers”, which are expected to be far superior to supercomputers, is advancing globally, but there are many problems such as large equipment.

On the other hand, Toshiba's newly developed device is characterized by its small size while achieving performance close to that of a quantum computer.

The company expects that it can be applied to a wide range of industries, such as finding the best evacuation route when a disaster occurs and moving industrial robots efficiently.

Dr. Kosuke Kashimura, Senior Researcher at Toshiba's R & D Center, said, “It was impossible until now, and we will be able to make the most reasonable decision instantly.”
