Of the tariffs that the United States wants to impose on thousands of agri-food products as punishment for the aid granted to Airbus, the countries with the worst unemployed leave are France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom (members of the Airbus consortium). The list includes many other European partners but the rates do not affect each other equally.

Which countries can benefit from tariffs on Spain? The Spanish products most affected by these rates are, above all, wine, olive oil and olives. This can benefit other large producers that are not included in the US list. Italy and Greece are the other two major oil producers, along with Spain. They also export olives. Neither is included in the list of rates that refer to these products (it affects them in others), so, if tariffs enter into force and Spanish sales of oil and olives fall, these two would be the most benefited markets. In the case of Italy, they are penalized sales of cheeses and spirits, for example, but not those of oil. In the case of Greece, tariffs weigh on their cheeses, yogurts or jams. Why these countries are no longer affected by Spain, because the list of tariffs is the sanction by the US to some countries for the aid granted to the manufacturer Airbus, competitor of the American Boeing. France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Spain are the members of the Airbus consortium and, therefore, the most affected by these fees, although the list includes virtually all EU countries, from Portugal, Luxembourg, Malta or Estonia, passing through Denmark, Hungary or Lithuania. What hopes are there that the list will be canceled? The EU has a trick, and it is pending a parallel case against the US for aid granted to the manufacturer Boeing. The arbitration ruling will be known in eight or 10 months, but it is estimated that the damage may be similar to that assessed in the Airbus case ($ 7.5 billion). The EU could also impose trade sanctions on the US for this same value. The EU hopes to be able to negotiate because, since these two crossed cases exist with sanctions for a similar amount, it would be normal to try to neutralize them. What are the key dates in this new stage of the trade war? Next Monday, the 14th, a meeting with the World Trade Organization will be held in Geneva in which the European Union will try to negotiate with the United States to prevent the list of tariffs from being executed. The other important event is on October 18 , because if the US does not accept to suspend the list, that day will publish the final one, with the products subject to the rates of the corresponding countries. What happens if the US decides to suspend the list? It would suspend it temporarily, but it doesn't have to be definitive. This would allow the EU to save time, as the resolution on the case of aid to Boeing will be known in eight or 10 months.
