“Some technical parameters may change, because the situation has changed significantly compared to a decade ago, including gas consumption in Ukraine and transit volumes,” Novak said.

He noted that when extending the contract with Ukrainian partners on existing legal conditions, the old contract may be taken as the basis “from the point of view of the regulatory framework”.

Novak said that the status of the development of gas agreements reached on September 19 will be discussed at the next round of tripartite consultations on October 28 to understand the degree to which Ukraine is moving forward on the "implementation of European law."

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the country was ready to extend the contract with Ukraine for pumping gas for a year if a new agreement was not signed.
