This Tuesday, October 8, Kristalina Georgieva, the new Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) made her first speech. A few days before the fall meetings, the IMF boss warns of the slowdown in the global economy and calls on countries to implement a climate change policy.

Faithful to her ecological convictions, the new boss of the IMF, began her speech with environmental recommendations. Kristalina Georgieva recommends the introduction of carbon taxes, as effective against climate change if they are accompanied by tax cuts and incentives for investment in clean infrastructure. Instead of adding new taxes, tax systems must be changed.

Regarding the global economic situation, Kristalina Georgieva announces a " synchronized slowdown " that it imputes for many to the American president. According to her, " Donald Trump's all-out commercial offensives will cost $ 700 billion to global growth by 2020. "

The escalation of customs taxes for several months between China and the United States affects international trade worldwide. It calls on countries for more reason to avoid a destabilization of the financial markets.

The new boss of the IMF also points the risks of a Brexit without agreement , just as it underlines the over-indebtedness of companies which in case of slowdown would expose them to the default of payment.

The IMF will also publish on October 15 growth forecasts for 2019 and 2020, revised downward . Already, the institution warns: growth will fall this year to its lowest since the beginning of the decade, and provides for slower growth in 90% of the world.
