The bankruptcy of Thomas Cook has been a major concern for tourism professionals in Egypt. The English tour operator was, indeed, one of the largest exporters of tourists to the countries of the Pharaohs.

For officials of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, the bankruptcy of Thomas Cook may disrupt the industry for a few months. According to Blue Sky Travel, Egyptian agent of Thomas Cook, the bankruptcy has already resulted in 25,000 cancellations of reservations. But this may be more worrying in 2020.

According to the director of Travco Travel, one of the largest Egyptian companies, Thomas Cook brought nearly 500,000 tourists to Egypt in one year. The equivalent of 4% of all tourists who have visited the country. Meanwhile, George Fawzi, boss of Excel Travel, is less pessimistic.

" Tourism in Egypt will be slightly affected , nuance he , because for those who want to come to Egypt, if not with Thomas Cook, there are about forty tour operators who are everywhere - that in Germany, Europe or England. And they will find other ways to visit the country . "

A decline in tourism could lead to slower growth and higher unemployment in Egypt.
