• Companies: Regulators in the United States find another "potential risk" in the Boeing 737 MAX

The American aeronautical company Boeing has announced that it will resort to its financial assistance fund to pay $ 144,500 in compensation (about 131,500 euros) to the families of each of the 346 fatalities of the two accidents that have caused the immobilization of the 737 MAX model for a possible manufacturing defect.

Its administrators will begin to accept the claims of the family members immediately, so they will not have to sue the company and should not give up their right to do so to access this payment. Claims must be sealed before December 31.

The fund - created in July and estimated at $ 50 million - is under the supervision of the Ken Feinberg and Camille S. Biros law firm.

Feinberg said Monday in an email to the Reuters news agency that "finding the heirs and making sure the funds are safe will be a real challenge since families can be in 35 countries."

In a statement, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg has said the company continues to extend its "deepest condolences" to the families and loved ones of accident victims. "This fund is an important step in our efforts to help affected families," he stressed.

The Boeing 737 MAX fleet, the best-selling model of this American aeronautics, was paralyzed on the ground in March after two plane crashes in five months in Indonesia and Ethiopia that killed 346 passengers.

The US aeronautical manufacturer is under investigation by the US Department of Justice on the development of the 737 MAX model, in addition to other inquiries and more than 100 lawsuits filed by relatives of the victims.
