  • Diada.Torra calls to "mow the chains" and "exercise self-determination"

Large businessmen and bankers with interests in Catalonia on Thursday asked the president of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, to accept the sentence of the process , whatever its content, and not mobilize the population against the State when it is known.

This has been stated in the Palau de la Generalitat by the executives of the Circle of Economy , which include its president, Javier Faus , the head of CaixaBank , Jordi Gual , the executive director of BBVA , José Manuel González Páramo, the lawyer Miguel Trias or the president of Havas Media , Alfonso Rodés . In Catalan business, there is great concern that independence will launch demonstrations, strikes and demonstrations that paralyze the economy of this important community and want this movement to be encouraged from the Catalan Government.

Sources of the Circle assure EL MUNDO that "the president of the Generalitat has been asked to maintain an institutional attitude of respect for the legal order and temper the spirits of citizenship when the sentence is known."

Torra has received today the new board of directors of this influential Catalan association that presides before the summer the financier Javier Faus and has listened to the request without ruling, according to the sources consulted. "It has been spoken frankly and since the discrepancy with the line of the Generalitat, but the meeting has been cordial," says one of the executives attending.

Faus has raised the political position of the Circle oriented to a third way between the current situation and the secession claim in which unilateral initiatives such as the one promoted by Carles Puigdemont in 2017 should be ruled out. According to a statement from the association, it is « redefinition of the territorial model of the State and the creation of a framework that favors dialogue, negotiation and transaction, requesting that no rupturist and unilateral decisions be promoted ».

The president of the Circle also defends as a solution that Barcelona be declared "Spanish coca capital" within the new anchor of Catalonia in the State. Torra has not become detached from independence and the right to self-determination, although he has said he understands the position of the financial and business world.

Faus and other assistants have recalled the importance of belonging to "Europe as guarantor of liberal democracy and some of its backbone axes: political project, welfare state, competitiveness and competition regulation." Some important members of the board such as the president of Seat , Luca de Meo el de Puig , Marc Puig , or the CEO of Banco Sabadell , Jaume Guardiola , have excused their attendance at the meeting with Torra. The president of the Generalitat maintains very few contacts with the business and financial elite, except for exceptions such as this because it is the new directive of the Circle of Economy.
