The founder of Dream or Donate, the crowdfunding site that recently suddenly disappeared from the sky, makes a settlement with the victims. This is reported by law firm De Vries & Kasem, which represents the victims.
The damage is reimbursed in full for most victims. Part of the amount comes from donors. In the case of a few victims, this is not the case, because it was not possible to determine exactly how high the damage was.
"Many victims are in very vulnerable situations and have not started the crowdfunding campaign out of luxury but out of necessity. We are pleased that through this settlement the victims are quickly compensated for their damage and their dream can come true," says lawyer Royce de Vries.
Dream or Donate was one of the larger donation websites in the Netherlands. People were able to raise money on the site. Projects varied from collection campaigns for seriously ill people to people who want to pay for their holidays with donations.
Household for sale
When the site went offline, more than three tons were still outstanding for current projects. The founder said at the time that the site was hacked and that the wrong amounts were shown in the projects. Many people put their doubts about that statement. Finally, the police also started an "exploratory investigation", in which, among other things, the founder's telephone was seized.
The case became even more remarkable when the founder of the site put an important part of his household for sale on Marktplaats in order to get money. Among other things, a large table, a number of artworks and a car were put up for sale.
