A jihadist convoy was ambushed by the Syrian army east of the ancient city of Palmyra. Several fighters of the Islamic State group were killed and three of their vehicles destroyed by missile fire. The Syrian air force then went into action to prevent the arrival of reinforcements.

Deadly assault

This ambush comes after a bloody assault launched Tuesday by jihadists against a Syrian army position in the region of Hamima, east of Palmyra. According to sources close to Damascus, this was one of the most violent attacks since ISIS lost the towns and villages it controlled in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor in the fall of 2017. about ten soldiers were killed or wounded in these fights.

Bloody guerrilla

In an area stretching from central Syria to the border with Iraq to the east, the Syrian Army and the Islamic State are engaged in bloody guerrilla warfare . This very little publicized war has already killed hundreds of people in both camps since last March. And, despite several attempts, government troops and their Russian ally have failed to pacify the Badia desert, where thousands of well-armed jihadists hide.
