“With regard to the political dimension of the Nord Stream 2 project, the main thing for the federal government is that Ukraine should remain a gas transit country with Nord Stream 2,” the German government said.

As noted, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has repeatedly pointed out that the continuation of gas transit through Ukraine after 2019 is in the interests of Germany and other EU member states.

“This position remains unchanged,” the government emphasized.

Earlier, Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky said that the positions of Kiev and Berlin on the issue of Nord Stream 2 are opposite.

As noted by Prime Minister of Ukraine Aleksey Goncharuk, negotiations with Russia on the issue of gas transit are expected to be difficult.
