Calsonic Kansei to close four plants Nissan's poor sales affected September 13 20:31

A major auto parts manufacturer, Calsonic Kansei, announced that it will close its four factories in Tochigi and Yamagata prefectures next year. This means that the sluggish sales of Nissan Motor, the main business partner, have an impact.

According to the announcement, Calsonic Kansei reviewed its domestic production system and decided to close four factories in Tochigi and Yamagata prefectures out of 27 factories in Japan next year.

The plants will be closed in Shimono, Sano and Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, which produce automobile cockpits and air conditioning parts. In addition, it is a factory in Sagae City, Yamagata Prefecture that produces compressors.

Calsonic Kansei is currently part of an American investment fund.

The investment fund is in the midst of fierce competition for next-generation vehicles such as autonomous driving. In May, it acquired the parts division of Fiat Chrysler and is reviewing its domestic and overseas production systems.

This closure of the plant is also affected by the poor sales of Nissan, the main customer.

According to the company, more than 600 employees working in the four factories to be closed will be relocated to another factory in the group.
