The Internet giant Google has agreed to pay a total of 965 million euros in France to settle a dispute with the country regarding the payment of taxes.

Specifically, the technological multinational has agreed to pay a fine of 500 million euros , as well as another 465 million in taxes.

"We have reached an agreement regarding the fiscal matters that have been occurring in France for a few years. The agreements include a payment of 500 million euros that has been stipulated today by a French court, as well as 465 million euros in additional taxes that we had agreed to pay, and that had been substantially reflected in our financial results before, "a company spokesperson explained in a statement.

"We continue to believe that the best way to provide a clear framework for companies operating worldwide is the coordinated reform of the international tax system ," the company added.

The French Financial Prosecutor (PNF, for its acronym in French) initiated this procedure against Google in 2015 and ended up accusing the company of "aggravated tax evasion" for having evaded the payment of 189 million euros in taxes between 2011 and 2016.

However, the dispute has been settled by a legal procedure in France that allows Google to accept the payment of the fine without having to go to trial or plead guilty to the accusation.
