The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in the UAE has warned mobile phone subscribers against downloading caller identification software, pointing out that there are several negative aspects that subscribers should be aware of before downloading and using those applications and programs.

The organization «Communications», in awareness bulletins addressed through its pages on social media, that the mere use of these programs gives full authority to take the data of all contacts on the phone of the subscriber, warning that the sharing of information about the contacts may expose them to exploitation in one way or another .

At the same time, the TRA asked customers to purchase mobile SIM cards from the points of sale approved by the UAE's telecom operators, Etisalat and du.

The organization warned against the possibility of fraudulent dealings of customers, which affect their data and personal accounts in the case of random purchase from unknown or unauthorized places. The TRA said that customers can identify the points of sale through the presence of the poster of the Authority at the points of sale «Etisalat» and «du».

The Commission demanded dealers not to fall victim to deceptive advertising, by thinking before clicking on any links promising false rewards.

It also called attention to anonymous messages and not to click on links, as well as alerting them not to resend any anonymous link received by the subscriber, because it may contain malware. The TRA noted that changes to the privacy policy should be reviewed for applications used by subscribers.

The organization stressed the importance of maintaining the confidentiality of personal information and messages on smartphones. The Authority stated that the failure to maintain the confidentiality of personal information and messages increases the possibility of the exposure of smart phones subscribers to piracy operations, with the aim of spying and the possibility of electronic penetration of accounts on smartphones and tablets, which exposes the account holder to steal personal data, whether data, information, pictures or videos loaded on devices that Hacked.
