In preparation for cyber attack risks targeting Asian countries where many Japanese companies have entered Japan, government officials from the Indo-Pacific region learned about countermeasures from experts in Japan and the United States on October 10.

This exercise was planned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry with the support of the US government, and more than 30 participants from 14 countries and regions in the Indo-Pacific region such as Southeast Asia, India, and Taiwan participated in the exercise. Did.

The exercise was carried out on the assumption that the equipment was subjected to a cyber attack using a simulation system that was designed for an important infrastructure such as a power plant.

In the exercise, there was an abnormality that caused the water level in the inside to drop sharply, but the situation was shown that the water level was displayed on the monitor as a result of unauthorized operation due to a cyber attack. I received an explanation from my house.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the risk of cyber attacks targeting Asian countries has been increasing year by year, and the number of cases in which corporate supply chains are affected is increasing.

An official of the Sri Lankan government who participated in the exercise said, “In addition to the installation of important infrastructure facilities, IT technology is also being automated, and we want to strengthen countermeasures against cyber attacks.”
