The Insurance Authority revealed yesterday that it is working to apply a modern technological system in the work of vehicle insurance to monitor the behavior of drivers and guide them when committing wrong practices while driving, which contributes to reduce traffic accidents and reduce the number of deaths resulting from road accidents.
The Director General of the Insurance Authority, Ibrahim Obaid al-Zaabi, said that «the application of this system came after the Commission presented to the Government Accelerators Initiative to adopt the application of the best international applications that adopt modern technologies such as Telematics technology to reduce traffic accidents and the number of road deaths. The system in achieving the national index by reducing the number of deaths resulting from road accidents to three deaths per 100,000 population ».
Al Zaabi said in a statement issued by the Authority, that «the implementation of the initiative will be through cooperation with some strategic partners from government agencies through the initiative of government accelerators, such as the Ministries of Interior and Economy, the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, in addition to the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai and the Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi Emirates Transport, as well as Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), the Land and Maritime Transport Authority and the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, as well as insurance companies.
He explained that «the Authority has conducted extensive studies on best practices and international applications that adopt modern technologies through the work of vehicle insurance, which will reduce traffic accidents and reduce the number of deaths resulting from road accidents».
The Director General of the Insurance Authority that «the results of studies showed that the adoption of a modern technology system using (Telematics) has led to a decrease in the number of accidents in some countries to 50%, through the success of the system in guiding drivers in the style of safe driving and improve their behavior remotely, The positive insurance record for motorists, which reflected positively on increasing the degree of traffic safety on the road ».
Al-Zaabi pointed out that «the implementation of the initiative will be through several stages, including the preparation of the infrastructure of the database and the operator through the formation of a joint committee of the concerned authorities, and the application of the initiative on transport vehicles in the pilot phase and then on taxis and fleets of commercial vehicles and rental cars and private cars».
He pointed out that «the Commission proposed to start the implementation of the initiative through the pilot application through the installation of 1000 devices on taxis and commercial vehicles in the first phase and measure the results of application».
Al Zaabi said that «device similar to the size of a mobile phone will be installed under the steering wheel of the vehicle, and will measure the data and instantaneous information related to the behavior of the driver and driving style, including (speed, skip mode, acceleration, the method of pressing the brakes, engine condition and in cases of accidents The system will also assist the concerned party to contact the driver immediately after the incident is detected and provide assistance.
