The Old Market of Tavernes Blanques was built in 1934 along the Barcelona road, a place strategically chosen to favor the trade of products. The market is still standing today and in the Town Hall of the town they consider it to be one of the places of interest to visit, although the reason why this municipality of the Valencian Community is known has another name: Mercadona .

Juan Roig's company is one of 66 that carry out its activity in the municipality, where its registered office has been located for 40 years. The group's commitment to the town is total since its inception and its effects are noted in its economy to the point that, despite its little more than 9,000 inhabitants, the Tavernes Blanques has become the eighth with the highest turnover of all of Spain, ahead of even cities like Seville, Valencia, Valladolid or Malaga.

This is included in the first Study on the Distribution of the turnover of companies by municipality carried out by Informa D&B , a subsidiary of Cesce, corresponding to 2017. According to its data, Mercadona and the rest of 65 companies that operated in the locality in that year They invoiced 21,157 million euros , a good part of them due to the predominance of the supermarket chain.

The case of Taverne, where the high turnover is due to the clear dominance of a group, is not the only one that indicates the study. Also among the top ten is Arteixo , whose popularity is indisputably linked to Amancio Ortega and the empire he founded, Inditex, in this town of Coruña. Almost 30,500 inhabitants, 584 companies based in this place and 24,084 million euros of joint billing. It occupies the fifth position in the D&B classification, behind Madrid, Barcelona, Alcobendas and Bilbao.

The hegemony of the textile giant has placed Arteixo as one of the engines of the Galician economy. In fact, according to a report last year from the Financial Club of Santiago, the municipality generates almost 29% of the GDP of the entire region and has become one of the most recognizable places in the region.

In the case of Martorell (Barcelona), his fame came to him on wheels. Literally. The Seat factory is located in it, largely responsible for the 10,525 million euros that the companies of the municipality billed in 2017. There are a total of 330 companies, although none have as much weight and is as decisive as the car manufacturer. That explains why Martorell is number 17 of the 20 locations with the highest generation of business income in the D&B classification.

The joint turnover of the three municipalities exceeds 55,760 million euros and represents 11.35% of the total.

Madrid, leader

The list is headed by Madrid , where in 2017 64,101 companies were registered with a turnover of 489,352 million euros. The figure multiplies by five the balance sheet of Barcelona, the next on the list with 87.8 billion euros. The main reason, as explained by Informa D&B, is that in the capital there is a greater concentration of companies, in general, and also of companies with higher turnover, in particular.

Thus, the capital has 64,101 companies and Barcelona with half, 32,790; In addition, in Madrid up to 67 companies with revenues of more than 1,000 million euros were accounted for in 2017.

In Alcobendas , third municipality on the list, there were 13 of that category. In total, the Madrid municipality concentrated the activity of 3,148 firms that generated revenues of 66,044 million euros, followed by Bilbao, where its 5,518 companies billed 38,752 million. The city whose companies obtained the lowest turnover was Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with 4,255 million euros.

Of the 20 municipalities analyzed, six are located in the community of Madrid, with the capital concentrating almost 90% of revenues. Barcelona, Valencia and Vizcaya are the next provinces that accumulate the most.
