The Spaniards will not be able to sell their used gasoline or diesel cars from 2040, according to the toughened environmental program that includes the socialist leader, Pedro Sánchez , in his plan of agreement with Podemos. In point 256 of the 390 measures of the program, the PSOE promises: "We will ban from 2040 the sale in Spain of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with direct emissions of carbon dioxide, excluding those registered as historic vehicles, provided they are destined to non-commercial uses. " In other words, not only can combustion vehicles not be registered in that year as the PSOE had already defended in the past, but not even sold when they are already used. As the only exception, it raises historical vehicles such as an old Rolls Royce for collectors.

The measure is in line with the statements of last year of the Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera , present at the presentation ceremony of the Sánchez program, about which diesel days are counted. However, it contrasts with what she recently assured that the prohibition was not contemplated in the so-called National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan.

Associations of the automobile sector have already come out of this program proposal to attract Podemos. "It is irresponsibility," the president of the Federation of Automobile Dealers' Associations (Faconauto), Gerardo Pérez, told Europa Press. Car sales have been in free fall in Spain for several months.

Sanchez accompanies, however, the hardness against combustion vehicles with this other measure in favor of the electrification of the car fleet: "A scheme of economic aid for the electric vehicle, stable and uninterrupted, will be launched, thus preventing sales focus on specific times or become paralyzed until the approval of new aid, as is currently the case. "
