DUBAI - The Middle East's 2019 Material Handling exhibition, which is dedicated to warehousing, logistics and supply chain solutions, kicked off yesterday at the Dubai World Trade Center.

Two companies participating in the exhibition revealed that they have concluded agreements with companies in Dubai, to manage the warehouse business through «robots», confirming that there is a demand to adopt these mechanisms to keep pace with smart city systems and business development.

Alan Qaddoum, General Manager of SwissLog for Information Technology and Automation Systems, said that the company recently completed projects with five companies in Dubai to manage works in its warehouses and provide logistics services via smart robots, pointing to «Axiom Telecom» which depends on nine robots It manages 12,000 funds in its warehouse handling operations, in addition to My Dubai and other companies in commercial sectors.

He told Emirates Today that SwissLog has spotted an expansion in companies in the emirate to adopt robots and artificial intelligence to manage its warehouse and logistics business, stressing that Dubai is leading the Middle East in the transformation of these systems.

He explained that the shift to the use of robots allows to increase the rates of accuracy in the completion of work, and reduce the time periods for completion, and reduce the number of employment, and reduce the number of accidents and injuries in the workplace, and restructure jobs.

He revealed that a recent study by «Market & Market» shows that investments to switch to warehouse automation in the Middle East, and switching to robots and artificial intelligence, estimated during the next two years, about 145 million dollars (about 532 million dirhams), while expected to reach 500 The UAE accounted for 37% of the UAE, compared to 45% for Saudi Arabia.

Fadi Al Amoudi, founder and CEO of IQ Robotics, said the company has recently completed a logistics and warehouse center in Dubai, which relies entirely on robots and artificial intelligence systems.

He pointed out that the center relies on 42 robots to complete the logistics business of packaging, packaging and storage, which saves 70% of the number of labor, and raises the accuracy of the completion of the work by up to 99%.

He added that the center deals with the e-commerce sector and food and pharmaceutical companies in Dubai, revealing that the company is making agreements with several companies in Dubai to convert their warehouses to work via robots in the coming period.

Axiom Telecom's CEO, Fahad Al Bannai, said the group has completed a robotics transformation project to manage its warehouse business in Dubai as part of its smart services transformation plans.

He stressed that reliance on robots reduces effort and time compared to traditional work systems, and also increases the efficiency of operation, in terms of accuracy and quality of work.

Simon Millor, CEO of Messe Frankfurt Middle East, said that the shift to smart automation, robotics and artificial intelligence is one of the new features that has recently begun to spread in the UAE and regional markets, in line with the trend of intelligent systems in the handling and warehouse sector. .
