• What is Uniqlo and why does it threaten to dethrone Zara?

Uniqlo, the Japanese fashion group known in Spain as the "Japanese Zara" , has announced the opening date of its first store in Madrid. It will be on October 17 and will be on Goya Street. The brand thus arrives in the capital two years after having landed in Barcelona, where it already has two stores and will open the third.

When the chain arrived in Spain, it created a lot of expectation, in addition to the novelty, because it was a self-proclaimed competitor of Inditex. It belongs to the Fast Retailing group, was founded in 1984 by Tadashi Yanai, has about 1,500 establishments worldwide and specializes in "constantly improved" basic garments.

Your first store in Madrid will be located at number 6 of Goya Street, in the mythical local Garden of Serrano, in one of the most dynamic commercial areas of the city.

As a curiosity, the store will have more than 2,000 square meters of vegetation with chestnut trees, palm trees , laurels and love trees that the customer visiting the store can observe from above.

The establishment will have 1,590 square meters of commercial area distributed over two floors, the decoration will mix simple and modern elements with historical elements of the building it occupies. Uniqlo Madrid will have the collection of essentials for women, men, children and babies.

There will also be the various collaborations of the Japanese brand with international designers (something that H&M already does, for example), being the next collaboration with JW Anderson.

In Barcelona, in addition, it will open on October 30 the doors of its third store in Barcelona. It will be on Avenida Diagonal and will occupy the commercial ground floor of "El Dau", one of the most emblematic buildings of the 80s. The new one will be the third largest store that the brand has in the city, after the Paseo de Gràcia and Glòries's.

Uniqlo has, with the new openings, four stores in Spain and in Europe it operates more than 90 stores in nine markets: United Kingdom, France, Russia, Belgium, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark. In Italy it will open its first store on September 13.
