The Chinese Ministry of Commerce reported that Beijing has initiated proceedings in the World Trade Organization (WTO) in connection with the introduction of new duties on Chinese exports from the United States.

“On September 1, the first package of additional US duties on China’s exports of $ 300 billion was officially entered into force. China initiated proceedings as part of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism,” the statement said.

The ministry noted that China will decisively defend its legitimate interests in accordance with the principles of the WTO.

Earlier, the Department of Commerce of China protested to the United States over the imposition of additional duties on September 1.

On August 6, the head of the School of Oriental Studies at the Higher School of Economics, Alexei Maslov, in an interview with the NSN, assessed the possible consequences of an intensified trade war between the US and China.
