In order to respond to serious labor shortages such as convenience stores and supermarkets, a system has been developed that automatically detects when a customer leaves a store by detecting which product the customer has picked up with a sensor or camera installed in the store. It was.

This system was developed by NTT DATA and opened an experimental store in Roppongi, Tokyo on the 2nd.

You can enter the store by holding the QR code used for smartphone payment over the entrance gate. Then, a sensor installed on the shelf or a camera attached to the ceiling detects which customer has picked up which product.

There is no cash register in the store, and it is automatically accounted for by smartphone payment when leaving the store, which can greatly reduce the manpower required for store operation.

Mr. Naoyuki Uchiyama, NTT Data IT Service & Payments Business Unit, said, “In addition to making the business more efficient for the store, it does not have to be lined up at the cash register for the consumer,” increasing the convenience.

NTT DATA has conducted verification tests in cooperation with convenience stores and supermarkets, and will introduce the system to actual stores next year, with the aim of introducing it to 1000 stores over the next three years.

Convenience stores and JR East are conducting verification tests on unattended stores where payments can be made, and it is drawing attention as a way to spread the labor shortage.
