The Chairman of the Emirates Consumer Protection Association (EPA), Mohammed Khalifa bin Uzair Al Muhairi, stressed the importance of parents, in conjunction with the start of the school year, to preserve the health of their children, school students, and sensitize these young consumers to stay away from harmful eating habits, and refrain from buying harmful food Public health.

Al-Muhairi stressed to UAE Today that it is a priority to educate young consumers not to buy food randomly, in addition to paying attention to the need not to give them large amounts of money, so as not to open their appetite for foods that may be unhealthy.

He pointed out the interest in the selection of students' food with great care, and maintain the appropriate quantities of food to ensure the continuation of their activity well, in addition to focusing on diets containing vegetables and fruits, and healthy food that does not have any negative effects in the future, such as sugars and starches, as well. About great attention to hygiene, both in terms of food containers, in the foods themselves, as well as water bottles. He also stressed the need for parents to pay attention to breakfast for their children, because of its importance in maintaining the energies and development of children properly, considering the beginning of the school year is an ideal occasion to organize behavioral, health and awareness programs for children.

Al Muhairi noted the role of schools in regard to the need to take into account the health and safety conditions in all that are sold, and the provision of educational programs to contribute to raising awareness of these young consumers.

He also called for the need to take into account not to increase the weight of school bags, because of the negative health effects in children, stressing the importance of continuous cooperation and constant communication between schools and parents, and follow-up everything related to children's health. He said that the Consumer Protection Association will spare no effort in following up everything related to young consumers, so as to ensure their safety and happiness, and to maintain their health and protect them from any exploitation whatsoever.

He noted that the association is following with interest the issue of consumer education and is ready to give all support to schools to spread the culture of proper consumption.
