South Korean tourists are decreasing.
As the number of Korean tourists visiting Japan decreased due to the deterioration of Japan-Korea relations, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ishii decided to meet with the Korean Minister of Tourism on the 30th of this month. I would like to confirm cooperation between governments so that the impact of tourism does not increase.
This was revealed by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ishii at a press conference after the cabinet meeting. South Korea ’s Park Yang-Woo (Park Rain) will be held at the meeting of the three ministers of tourism in Japan, China and Korea on 30th of this month. We will meet individually with the Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Ishii said, “There are various issues between Japan and Korea, but human exchange is the basis for mutual understanding between the two countries, and tourism exchange is important.” He expressed his desire to confirm cooperation between governments so as not to expand.
In the last year, the number of Korean tourists visiting Japan has increased to about 7.53 million, which is three times that of 10 years ago, accounting for a quarter of all foreign tourists.
However, due to the deterioration of Japan-Korea relations, last month was down 7.6% compared to the same period of the previous year, spreading the impact on tourism.
