Due to strikes at Barcelona-El Prat airport, the Spanish airline Vueling has canceled 112 flights this weekend. The consequences of the strike can also be felt in the Netherlands: a total of four flights to and from Schiphol were canceled on Saturday and Sunday.
The ground staff of the airline Iberia are on strike for better working conditions. They want to be able to use more permanent appointments, more training opportunities and new vehicles.
In addition to Vueling, Iberia itself also had to cancel twelve flights (six on Saturday and six on Sunday) as a result of the strikes, bringing the total to 124 flights that will not take place.
Next weekend strikes by the ground staff are planned, then the Iberia staff will not only strike in Barcelona, but also at Madrid-Barajas, Madrid's international airport. Madrid-Barajas is the largest airport in Spain in terms of passenger numbers, followed by Barcelona-El Prat. More flights may then be canceled.
