Blocking the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur as announced Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the G7 is not the right method to fight against deforestation in the Amazon, say more of more European partners in France. After London and Berlin, Madrid publicly expresses its disagreement with Paris.

The Spanish government is very unhappy that Emmanuel Macron has questioned the ratification of a free trade agreement that Madrid has greatly helped to bring about.

" Spain has been at the forefront of the last effort to sign the EU - Mercosur agreement that will open huge opportunities for the two regional blocs, " said the Spanish authorities. They refuse any " blocking of ratification " of the treaty.

These protests from Spain are in addition to those of the United Kingdom and Germany who dispute the French method. "Interference" for the British Prime Minister. Boris Johnson spoke on the subject as soon as he arrived in Biarritz for the G7.

An inappropriate method, the spokesman of the German government said Friday, for which " the failure of the conclusion of the Mercosur agreement would not contribute to reduce the clearing of the tropical forest in Brazil ".

Only Ireland and Poland supported the position of France. No wonder: these three European countries are the ones who have the greatest fears about Brazil's agricultural products for their own farmers.
