Chairman of the Emirates Consumer Protection Association (EPA), Mohammed Khalifa bin Uzair Al Muhairi, called on the competent authorities in the UAE to oblige companies producing black plastic bags to put warning labels on the bags confirming to consumers in the country that the bags are not valid for preserving food.

Al Muhairi told the UAE today that these bags are sometimes made of waste or plastic that is harmful to public health because they are made from supply oil bottles (plastic) which are made of (PVC) and are recycled with waste and is also used (vinyl chloride) which is It is a toxic substance that causes cancer cell activity.

Al-Muhairi stressed the association's keenness on spreading the necessary awareness in this field to avoid the consequences of these practices of ominous consequences, pointing out that there are a lot of habits that may be practiced by some in dealing with food preservation ignorant of its results, and these habits may be very dangerous to public health and even threaten Life too

He explained that one of these customs is the use of bags for garbage in the preservation of foodstuffs and foods, especially meat, which the Assembly noted its spread during the past period, especially during the period of Eid al-Adha and the following in particular in some remote areas in the country, pointing out that this is a very dangerous habit may be practiced by some ignorant Or recklessness

Al Muhairi stressed that the labeling of these warning phrases will be very useful for consumers as this label or warning phrases will alert consumers to the damage caused by the use of these bags, which leads to lower rates of use to save food and meat significantly.


Al-Muhairi pointed out in this regard that the damages of the use of plastic materials in food storage is taken for granted, but the continuation of awareness campaigns and follow-up markets and sales outlets of consumer goods remains vital to ensure that users comply with the health rules that were found to protect them, which is what the Consumer Protection Association
