Iran's President Hassan Rohani on Thursday (August 22nd) unveiled a new missile defense system. This is a new step in strengthening the country's military capabilities.

The new anti-missile missile system is called Bavar 373. It is capable of hitting six targets at a time from a distance of almost 30 km. " The system built entirely by Iran is better than the Russian S300 and looks like Russia's S400 system ," said Rohani.

Iran has already received Russian S300s, but has developed its own missile defense system. By unveiling this new anti-aircraft defense, Iran wants to show that it has the capacity to develop such ultramodern systems.
An announcement that comes amidst tension between the Islamic Republic and the United States in the Persian Gulf region.

Last June, Iran shot down an ultra-sophisticated American drone with a locally-made missile, which almost caused a military confrontation between the two countries.

The country has a highly developed military and ballistic industry. The Iranian missiles, which have a range of 2,000 kilometers, are capable of striking Israel, but also all US bases in the region.
