The coverage ratio of the largest Dutch pension fund ABP fell on July 31 to 93.9 percent. As a result, the coverage ratio has fallen below the critical limit of 95 percent. If the coverage ratio is below this limit at the end of the year, there will be discounts according to the ABP.
The coverage ratio decreased by 1.4 percentage points month on month. The fall in the coverage ratio goes hand in hand with the malaise in the financial markets.
Research firm Aon already reported last week that the funding ratios of pension funds had fallen. The agency already stated that discounts "became an increasingly realistic scenario", due to falling interest rates like blows on the stock exchange.
