The State Duma announced the political dependence of Eastern Europe on the United States
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs Dmitry Novikov commented on RT’s statement by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda about the “danger” of Nord Stream-2.
“The situation is quite obvious. In Europe, a certain political situation has formed. It so happened that representatives of NATO countries and the European Union began to listen to American interests. Eastern Europe turned out to be much more dependent on the United States, both economically and politically. Within the EU, the governments of these countries act as Washington's plenipotentiaries. So, such discussions are quite natural, ”the deputy said.
He also noted that Merkel, reflecting the interests of Germany, takes a certain position in relation to Nord Stream 2, which is why some countries want to express additional support to Washington.
“But Germany continues to resist and it is quite logical. The Germans always knew how to count money, ”Novikov said.
Earlier, Nauseda said that he had expressed to German Chancellor Angela Merkel a “rather skeptical opinion” of Lithuania regarding the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project.
